National Hispanic Heritage Month, September 15 to October 15

Juan Felipe Herrera kicked off the beginning of this annual event with his first official reading as U.S. poet laureate, President Obama issued a proclamation, and the Los Angeles Dodgers added special music and promotions to their games!

During Hispanic Heritage Month Americans recognize the histories, cultures, and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.

This year the Library of Congress will launch a sample of selected recordings from the online Archive of Hispanic Literature on Tape (AHLOT) which began in 1943 and contains nearly seven-hundred recordings.

And Benedictine’s Library features the online Encyclopedia of Latin American History and Culture which provides a comprehensive view of cultural issues and biographies profiling men and women in politics, letters, and the arts dating from prehistoric times to the present.
